What is ECO 4?
ECO4 stands for Energy Company Obligation, specifically the fourth phase of this UK government program. It’s designed to improve energy efficiency in homes across Great Britain. Here’s a breakdown of its key features:
- Goal: Reduce carbon emissions and make homes more energy-efficient.
- Target: Low income households and those in fuel poverty with the least efficient homes (EPC rating of D or lower).
- Benefits: Free or subsidized installations of energy-saving measures like insulation, heating upgrades (boilers, heat pumps), and sometimes even solar panels.
- Timeline: Launched in April 2022 and runs until March 2026.
Essentially, ECO4 helps qualifying households make their homes warmer, reduce energy bills, and contribute to a greener environment.

The Energy Compliance Obligation (ECO)
The ECO scheme is a government program that helps us fund energy efficiency improvements for people on certain benefits.
Local Authority Flexibility Eligibility (LA Flex)
It lets us help low-income households and those on child benefits, even if they don’t qualify for standard ECO benefits
Do I Qualify for a Grant?
- Someone living in the property must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit
- Have a combined household income of £31,000 or less.
- The customer must be an owner-occupier for Gas Upgrade.
- The customer can be either a owner occupier or a private tenant to qualify for Air Source Heat Pump, Solar PV or Electric Storage Heaters.
- OR have a gas central heating system with a gas boiler, less than 86.7% efficient
- Have a Energy Performance EPC rating of E, F or G.
- Have a Energy Performance EPC rating of E, F or G.
